Reasons Why a Voter's Party Affiliation is Reset
The system resets a voter's party affiliation to NPA and clears the party affiliation date when reversing or adjusting voting history to a not voted status for a primary election IF the voter has not voted in another primary election in the current calendar year. Below are the scenarios in which this occurs:
Process | How is This Done? |
---|---|
Reversing a returned ballot |
|
Reversing an early vote |
|
Posting an early voting adjustment that reverses a vote |
|
Changing voter status in History Details |
|
Reversing voting status in Record Register History |
Note: Re-entering or re-swiping the voter's registration ID changes the Signed column to N and records the voter as having not voted.
|
The party and affiliation date are not reset during these processes when:
- A voter is recorded as having voted in another primary election during the current calendar year.
- The only change to voter history is how a voter successfully voted. For example, if you change the voting method from Voted by Mail to Voted Early and make no other changes to voting history, the voter's party affiliation is not reset, regardless of the last date voted.
In addition, you can clear party affiliations at the end of every calendar year in List Maintenance > List Maintenance Tasks as part of you annual maintenance.
